Reading Festival Headliners.

So now the excitement has passed and the Reading lineup is shaping up nicely. There are some skeptical people who think the headliners aren’t up to much but let’s give it some context.

Green Day

Easily one of the biggest bands in the 90s and 00s they made some mistakes and had a pretty shit album with 21st century break down but their shows are epic! Their surprise set in NME tent last year will go down in music history and it was a perfect way for Reading to test the water for them.

Biffy Clyro

I’m so so so behind Biffy headlining Reading and Leeds, they’ve worked so hard for so many years and now they’re doing sell out tours and have headlined other fests. Reading is always the first to take a chance on a risk headliner. MCR were risky but they blew everyone away. With their back catalogue supporting Bubbles, living is a problem, golden rule and who’s got a match they’re set to blow audiences away this summer.

Eminem

Okay this one I might be a bit bias on because this is my favourite artist. He’s easily one of the biggest artists this world has ever seen and best of all he appeals to so many audiences. I saw Eminem at V and he attracted so many different people. He’s sober now but not lost that angry element that males him unique (Slim Shady). Basically he’s gonna kill it!

I think this year has the most diverse lineup at Reading I personally have ever seen and I can’t wait!

This post is long overdue but It’s basically a high five to myself for guessing that Debra would kill Laguerta at the end of this season. My reasoning was to protect Dexter and I was right! It was a great episode and a great kill but I can’t help but think what the next series will be like? Maybe Debra and Dexter will actually get together, maybe Debra will get a dark whatever? Either way this is one of the best shows out there for sure!

Dexter was brilliant this week, Jim Beaver proved that he can play a variety of characters (not just bobby singer) as he portrayed Hannah’s father extremely well! The whole Quinn thing is boring me but now at least that might be over. The man who was starting the fire was caught easily and didn’t really go anywhere apart from letting Dexter see that after X amount of series he doesn’t have a dark passenger! Wtf! I still believe that Debra will kill laguerta or the old man. I’m so excited to see how this series will end.

So it’s just hit me that I’ll be seeing Alexisonfire in London on Monday, I felt bad about going because I haven’t been a fan for a long time, in all honesty I started listening to them last year and I felt bad I had a ticket but after a conversation with the girlfriend I felt better.

Anyway, it’s just dawned on me today how legendary this show will be, hundreds of eager fans will be there to see their favourite band play in THEIR own country for the last time, Alexisonfire must have love for their UK fans to play here…twice. As a journalist this poses a dilemma for me because I will without doubt want to review it because I love writing but how do I write without being bias to my own want to see them and how do i do a review that encases their career as a band for ten years.

I’ve never been worried about reviewing a band before. It’s usually just me thinking ‘hope it’ll be good next week’ but right now i’m paranoid about the amount of fans I could piss off if it’s a shit review and I want to do this band justice, they deserve it after so many years.

I’m excited don’t get me wrong and I feel priveleged that I can go to such an event! The only other event I’ve been to like this was when Muse played on a beach in their hometown but this is just staggering! It will be the last time this band hits up the UK shores forever! How can i even begin writing about that? So far all I have is that I want to say this:‘Alexisonfire ‘We won’t forget you’’

That Debra will end up killing Laguerta in Dexter? I think she’ll tell Debra that Dexter is the bay harbour butcher and Debra over whelmed with her love will protect Dexter by killing her and this will cause Deb to leave Miami. What do we think?

Why I don't like the ending to Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I suppose I should put some context on this, i love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, i have done since I was a little kid. The action was awesome, the story lines were amazing and Sarah Michelle Gellar for a number of years has been my dream woman! Seasons 1-6 were brilliant, there were always a few episodes that were a bit crap but that was clearly just trying to get some more viewers or just filling the time between the on going theme through out the series.

Previous seasons we were given the Mayor, Glory (a god) for villains and in season six we even got an evil Willow who tried to end the world. This is where my qualms with the last season ending come in.

Buffy has acquired a bunch of ‘potential’ slayers to try and help fight the ‘first evil’ which is Non Corporeal (can’t make contact with physical objects) so the first couldn’t actually do anything to Buffy or the girls, one girl killed herself because she spent a night talking to the ‘first’ which was completely stupid.

Buffy acquires an old weapon that holds lots of power for a slayer, Buffy asks Willow to harness the power from this weapon and distribute it to all potential slayers over the world…

HOLD ON A MINUTE!

This is the girl that just a year ago had gone evil and was standing at the foot of an ancient temple ready to destroy the world. So what does Buffy ask her to do? Use all her magic to get all of the power out of this magical weapon and distribute it to girls all over the world, obviously it was the last episode so it worked out perfectly yay! Everything works out yay. Oh and this for some reason turns Willow into a Goddess. No sense.

When Buffy leads the potentials down into the hell mouth to fight all these super vamps (that the first is producing because he can’t hurt anyone). All goes bad at first until Willow’s hocus pocus makes all the girls actual slayers and we’re treated to a ridiculous flying kick from one potential. This would be acceptable if the show hadn’t spent so long in the series making the audience despise the potentials. They were teenage girls who were questioning Buffy at every single turn, they even question Giles! As an audience member I just found myself over whelmed with happiness when potentials died.

So the ending. Spike has an amulet that Angel gave to Buffy that she gave to Spike, this works with his soul and opens up a hole in the roof which brings in sunlight which rebounds off Spike like a mirror and kills all the vamps and ultimately destroys the Hell Mouth…and Spike, not before Buffy says ‘I love you’ and Spike shoots her down with ‘No ya don’t’ 1-0. Why didn’t they think about it and use Xander’s army skills to get a bazooka again and fire a hole in the roof and get a shit load of mirrors? Because that would have been a bad ending? Cause Spike effectively being a mirror wasn’t bad at all.

Buffy is left on her own and after a brief shot of her running upstairs in the school she is miraculously on the roof of the school, this wouldn’t be so bad but everyone else is getting away in a school bus while the whole school crumbles to the ground (as well as half of Sunnydale) Buffy jumps from the school onto the bus…as i said i’m a huge fan and i know for a fact that the space she jumped from the school to the bus is much bigger than that, as the bus is still on the road.

Everyone survives…yay! Except Anya (did anyone care?) not even Xander cried. Buffy is left to realise she’s not the only slayer in the world anymore and smiles even though she’s got no money, nowhere to live and ultimately nowhere to go.

After a great build up for many seasons for it to end like this was a let down. I hadn’t realised how bad it was till the other day. Rant over. Hope you enjoyed.
